Slightly Different Foods understands the growing desire for high quality foods which are free from artificial preservatives, flavourings and colourings.
Our Mission is simple; We want to provide a range of delicious every day food products that can be enjoyed by anyone including vegetarians, vegans and those following a Low FODMAP diet or suffering from food intolerances.
It's seems strange now to think that my own personal situation resulted in the birth of a business!
In 2014 I was diagnosed with IBS. I knew I couldn't ignore my diagnosis and suffer the consequences, I had to make significant changes to my diet but I soon realised that every supermarket I visited didn't cater for IBS sufferers, so I started researching food allergies and discovered the Low FODMAP diet.
I realised that I had to take control, so I started creating my own recipes that ensured the discomfort I previously experienced was a thing of the past. I wanted to enjoy foods that had previously caused me problems and started to experiment with different ingredients that delivered the same taste without the discomfort. This resulted in the birth of Slightly Different Foods.
My goal was to produce high quality foods that not only had the potential to help others suffering from food intolerances, but would be an every day product suitable for anyone.
I managed, despite opposition from major UK retailers, to secure a Silver and Bronze award at the Free From Awards in 2017 but I realised that I had to change my strategy. I was working so many hours, and despite loving what I was doing and getting a great response for my products, I couldn't keep all the business plates spinning. I was the technician, manager and entrepreneur.
In May 2018 with the support of Simon Fox we set up Slightly Different Foods Limited. Simon has 25 years experience in the wealth management industry advising individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses. Having run his own business and also being a private investor in start up businesses he manages our business leaving me the time to develop new products.
Simon suggested that rather than produce our products on a small scale we should adopt a new strategy. We sourced a manufacturer to produce our products so that I can focus on product development. We had our products tested and achieved FODMAP Friendly accreditation and Vegetarian & Vegan approved status. We are now we are in a position to offer them worldwide.
